Did you have a bike when you were a child?
Exemplo: Yes, I had a bike when I was about seven. My father bought it for me and I learned to keep my balance, but I was never very confident riding it. As a result, I usually prefer taking the bus or walking now.
Do you think bikes are popular in your country?
可使用连词如“for example”或“as a result”。
Exemplo: Yes, I think bikes are very popular, especially in large cities where people use them to commute to work. For example, many commuters prefer cycling because it is faster and a good form of exercise. In Germany where I live, cycling is part of the local culture and there are many bike lanes and parking facilities.
× I did have a bike when I was a child, like around 7 years old.
✓ I had a bike when I was a child, around seven years old.
× My dad bought that before me, but umm, I didn't really like it 'cause I'm not good at it, umm.
✓ My dad bought it for me, but I didn't really like it because I wasn't good at riding it.
原句中“bought that before me”不自然,英语中应使用“bought it for me”。“I'm not good at it”在描述童年经历应使用过去时“wasn't good at riding it”。
× But umm, it was indeed a good experience to learn how to keep balance.
✓ But it was indeed a good experience to learn how to keep my balance.
× But still to today I don't really, uh, write a book.
✓ But even today I don't really ride a bike.
此外“to today”不自然,改为“even today”。
× I prefer to take a bus or a walk.
✓ I prefer to take the bus or walk.
习惯表达是“take the bus”或“walk”而不是“a walk”。“take a bus”可以,但若泛指日常通勤更常说“take the bus”。为简洁,把动词并列为“take the bus or walk”。
× I think so umm, bike is very popular in especially the large cities like one people would like to uh, go to work or if they just need to relax and umm treat riding a bike as umm a very helpful exercise, they would do so.
✓ I think so. Bicycles are very popular, especially in large cities, where people like to go to work by bike or, if they need to relax, treat riding a bicycle as a very good form of exercise.
句中“bike is very popular”应使用复数“bicycles are”以泛指,且需主谓一致。 “a very helpful exercise”可改为“a very good form of exercise”更自然。
× But I feel that umm in Germany, it's rather a culture.
✓ But I feel that, in Germany, cycling is rather a cultural thing.
原句“it's rather a culture”不够自然,需明确主语“cycling”或“biking”。表示“在德国这是一种文化”可改为“cycling is rather a cultural thing”。
× I live in Germany right now I.
✓ I live in Germany right now.
只需说“I live in Germany right now.”
