Part 1
Examiner
Did you have a bike when you were a child?
Candidate
Yes I did. My grandpa bought me a pink bicycle. I can still feel how I was really proud of writing for the first time. I got a few bruises, but I can say that it's really well to try that one.
Examiner
Do you think bikes are popular in your country?
Candidate
I would like to say yes, but not in the city area because in the city area we have a lot of traffic jam and also crowded places. So uh, it's not really safe to ride bike in the city. But for the rural area, most of the people, they use bike for the short trip and transportation.
Did you have a bike when you were a child?
Score: 62.0Suggestion: Be clearer, more natural and accurate. Start with a direct topic sentence, correct vocabulary (riding, not writing), avoid unnecessary words, and use a linking word to add a brief specific detail or result. Keep to 2–4 sentences. Also correct grammar ("it was really good to try" or "I'm glad I tried").
Example: Yes, I did. My grandpa gave me a pink bicycle when I was six, and I felt very proud to be able to ride it for the first time. Although I scraped my knees a few times, I’m glad I learned to ride early because it made me more confident and independent.
Do you think bikes are popular in your country?
Score: 70.0Suggestion: Make the structure more concise and natural. Start with a clear topic sentence (Yes and qualification), use linking words (however, whereas, on the other hand), avoid repetition (don’t repeat "in the city area"), and give one specific example or statistic if possible. Correct small grammar issues ("many people use bikes for short trips in rural areas").
Example: Overall, bikes are quite popular in my country, but their use depends on the area. In cities, heavy traffic and crowded streets make cycling unsafe; however, in rural areas many people rely on bicycles for short trips and daily transport.
