Part 1
Examiner
Do you work or are you a student?
Candidate
I work as a researcher in this country. When I was in Japan, I worked as a doctor and a researcher. Now I temporarily focus on my research. Working as a researcher requires long hours and precise data analysis, so I think it's very demanding.
Examiner
Where do you study?
Candidate
I went to the Gentile Medical University. I think it was a very supportive environment. The professors were helpful and the facilities were great so I could focus on my study about medicine and I also got a lot of friends.
Examiner
Is it a good place to study?
Candidate
Yeah, I really think so. Juneteenth Medical University provided me a very good opportunity to focus on my study. The professors were helpful and the facilities were great, and I also made a lasting friendship.
Examiner
Would you like the place where you study to make any changes?
Candidate
Overall the facilities were great and the professors were supportive, so it's my favorite place, but only one thing I'd like to add is that, uh, I wish there were a coffee on campus so I could deduct between classes.
Examiner
What are your future study plans?
Candidate
So in the future I'd like to study psychology because I really love to brush up my communication skills as a medical doctor, so learning about psychology and counseling could be a good option on me.
Do you work or are you a student?
Score: 78.0Suggestion: 冒頭で直接質問に答え明確だが、冗長な表現や繰り返しがある。情報は具体的で良いが、文の接続を改善し、語彙をもう少し自然に整理するとさらに良くなる。例えば「temporarily focus」や「I think it's very demanding」の言い回しを自然な形にすること、そして文を短めにまとめると流暢さが上がる。
Example: I work here as a researcher. Previously in Japan I worked both as a doctor and a researcher, but at the moment I’m concentrating on research. This role involves long hours and careful data analysis, so it can be quite demanding.
Where do you study?
Score: 72.0Suggestion: 過去形で答えている点は良いが、大学名の発音や固有名詞の一貫性に注意。内容が少し散漫で接続語を使って論理的に繋げると効果的。具体例(どんな施設や教授の支援があったか)を一つ加えると説得力が増す。
Example: I studied at Gentile Medical University, which was very supportive. For example, professors offered weekly office hours and the simulation labs were excellent, so I could concentrate on my medical studies and make many friends.
Is it a good place to study?
Score: 70.0Suggestion: 答えは肯定的で要点を押さえているが、大学名が先の回答と異なり一貫性に欠ける(Gentile vs Juneteenth)。同じ場所を指すなら名称を統一し、具体的な理由を一つ二つに絞って述べると良い。
Example: Yes, definitely. Gentile Medical University offered excellent clinical training and supportive professors, which helped me focus on my studies and build lasting friendships.
Would you like the place where you study to make any changes?
Score: 60.0Suggestion: 意図は伝わるが言い回しが不正確("a coffee" や "deduct between classes")で、ためらいの表現が多い。具体的に何が欲しいか(例:カフェ、学生ラウンジ)を明確にし、自然なフレーズで言う練習をすると改善する。
Example: Overall the campus was excellent, but I would like a student café on site so I could relax between classes.
What are your future study plans?
Score: 68.0Suggestion: 将来の計画は明確だが、表現に不自然さがある("brush up my communication skills" は良いが "could be a good option on me" は誤用)。理由を簡潔に述べ、具体的に何を学びたいか(例:counseling techniques)を加えると説得力が増す。
Example: In the future I’d like to study psychology to improve my communication and counseling skills as a doctor, for example by learning counseling techniques and patient-centred interview methods.
× I work as a researcher in this country.
✓ I work as a researcher in this country.
No change needed; present simple correctly indicates current employment.
× When I was in Japan, I worked as a doctor and a researcher.
✓ When I was in Japan, I worked as a doctor and a researcher.
No change needed; past simple correctly describes past roles.
× Now I temporarily focus on my research.
✓ Now I am temporarily focusing on my research.
Use present continuous to describe a temporary ongoing action. 'Focus' as a stative/action verb here suits the progressive form to show it is happening now.
× Working as a researcher requires long hours and precise data analysis, so I think it's very demanding.
✓ Working as a researcher requires long hours and precise data analysis, so I think it is very demanding.
No major grammar issue; replacing contraction 'it's' with 'it is' is optional. Sentence correctly uses present simple to state general truth.
× I went to the Gentile Medical University.
✓ I went to Gentile Medical University.
No grammar error; removing 'the' before proper university name is often correct, but this is style not required. Past simple correctly indicates completed education.
× I think it was a very supportive environment.
✓ I think it was a very supportive environment.
Past tense 'was' is appropriate because the supportive environment refers to the time when the student attended; 'I think' in present is fine to express current opinion about past experience.
× The professors were helpful and the facilities were great so I could focus on my study about medicine and I also got a lot of friends.
✓ The professors were helpful and the facilities were great, so I could focus on my medical studies, and I also made a lot of friends.
Multiple issues: 'study about medicine' is unnatural—use 'medical studies'. 'Got a lot of friends' is colloquial and ungrammatical for forming relationships; use 'made a lot of friends'. Commas added for clarity. Past simple correctly used.
× Yeah, I really think so.
✓ Yes, I really think so.
Informal 'Yeah' can be changed to 'Yes' for formal speech; no grammar change required.
× Juneteenth Medical University provided me a very good opportunity to focus on my study.
✓ Juneteenth Medical University provided me with a very good opportunity to focus on my studies.
Use 'provided me with' (correct verb+preposition). 'Study' as uncountable is awkward here—use 'studies' to mean courses/education. Past simple correctly used.
× The professors were helpful and the facilities were great, and I also made a lasting friendship.
✓ The professors were helpful and the facilities were great, and I also made lasting friendships.
'Made a lasting friendship' is unnatural; use plural 'lasting friendships' or 'a lasting friend'. Past simple is correct; plural sounds more natural.
× Overall the facilities were great and the professors were supportive, so it's my favorite place, but only one thing I'd like to add is that, uh, I wish there were a coffee on campus so I could deduct between classes.
✓ Overall the facilities were great and the professors were supportive, so it was my favorite place, but one thing I would like to add is that I wish there were a café on campus so I could relax between classes.
'It's my favorite place' mixes present with past context—use 'it was my favorite place'. 'I'd like' expanded to 'I would like' for formality. 'a coffee' is incorrect for a place — use 'a café'. 'Deduct between classes' is incorrect word choice; replace with 'relax between classes'.
× So in the future I'd like to study psychology because I really love to brush up my communication skills as a medical doctor, so learning about psychology and counseling could be a good option on me.
✓ So in the future I would like to study psychology because I really want to brush up my communication skills as a medical doctor, so learning about psychology and counseling could be a good option for me.
'I'd like' expanded for clarity. 'Love to brush up' is awkward; 'want to brush up' is more natural. 'A good option on me' is incorrect preposition—use 'for me'. Overall future intention should use 'would like' and appropriate prepositions.
