Part 1

Examiner

Do you prefer typing or handwriting?

Candidate

I personally prefer typing over handwriting because admittedly I have terrible handwriting and I'm also quite faster at typing than I am at handwriting. This is due to my experience as a writer and using laptops a lot to write. So I have typing has become annoying.

Examiner

Do you type on a desktop or laptop keyboard every day?

Candidate

I wouldn't say that I type on a laptop keyboard every day. In fact, I would say that I type on my phone's keyboard more than I do on a laptop. Mostly because I don't use my laptop every day anymore, But my phone is something that I use daily, so the keyboard, I'm just more familiar with the keyboard there.

Examiner

When did you learn how to type on a keyboard?

Candidate

I learned to type on a keyboard when I was about 10 years old. My father brought a computer home and he taught us how to use it. Since then, I have become more efficient at using it, and it has been especially beneficial when I went to school and used laptops a lot to write reports and for my assignments.

Examiner

How do you improve your typing?

Candidate

To improve typing, I think the only real answer is by practicing. By practicing writing on a keyboard, you become more accurate and you become more efficient in using it so you don't lag behind when you type.

Evaluation

Overall

Overall: 6.0Fluency & Coherence: 6.5Pronunciation: 6.0Grammar: 6.0Lexical Resource: 6.0

Part 1

Do you prefer typing or handwriting?

Score: 72.0

Suggestion: Answer is generally clear and relevant but has grammatical errors, a redundancy and a confusing final sentence. Improve by starting with a direct topic sentence, use one or two concise supporting reasons with linking words, and correct grammar (e.g., “typing has become annoying” is unclear). Keep within 3–4 sentences.

Example: I prefer typing to handwriting because my handwriting is poor and typing is much faster for me. As a writer who uses laptops often, I can draft and edit more quickly on a keyboard. For these reasons, typing is more practical and comfortable for my daily work.

Do you type on a desktop or laptop keyboard every day?

Score: 78.0

Suggestion: Good content and clear comparison, but speech is slightly repetitive and has minor punctuation/capitalization issues. Improve coherence by using linking words (e.g., 'because'/'so') smoothly and avoid repetition of 'keyboard'. Keep answers concise and correct small grammar errors.

Example: I don't type on a laptop keyboard every day; I actually use my phone's keyboard more often. Because I use my phone daily but not my laptop, I am more familiar and comfortable typing on the phone for quick messages and notes.

When did you learn how to type on a keyboard?

Score: 85.0

Suggestion: Clear, well-structured response with relevant supporting details and chronological coherence. To improve further, combine sentences with linking words and replace vague phrases (e.g., 'it has been especially beneficial') with a specific result or example. Keep within 2–3 sentences if possible.

Example: I learned to type when I was about ten after my father brought a computer home and taught us. Since then, my typing skills improved, which helped me complete school reports and assignments faster and more accurately.

How do you improve your typing?

Score: 76.0

Suggestion: Good main idea but repetitive and slightly wordy. Add a specific method or example (e.g., online typing tests, touch-typing practice) and use linking language to make it more informative and natural. Keep to 2–3 concise sentences.

Example: The best way to improve typing is regular practice, such as using online typing tests or touch-typing lessons. For example, I practice 15 minutes daily with a typing website, which has increased my speed and reduced mistakes.

Grammar

Sentence structure errors

× So I have typing has become annoying.

So typing has become annoying.

The original sentence contains redundant auxiliary 'have' plus noun 'typing' causing a structure error. Remove the extra 'have' to form a correct noun phrase with verb 'has become' omitted; here 'typing has become annoying' or simply 'So typing has become annoying.' Use 'So typing has become annoying.' to be natural.

Conjunction/Capitalization issue (Incorrect conjunction use)

× Mostly because I don't use my laptop every day anymore, But my phone is something that I use daily, so the keyboard, I'm just more familiar with the keyboard there.

Mostly because I don't use my laptop every day anymore, but I use my phone daily, so I'm just more familiar with the keyboard there.

The original sentence improperly capitalizes 'But' after a comma and has awkward repetition and commas. Use lowercase 'but' after the comma and simplify redundant phrases: 'I use my phone daily' and 'I'm just more familiar with the keyboard there.' This improves conjunction use and sentence flow.

Past tense issue

× Since then, I have become more efficient at using it, and it has been especially beneficial when I went to school and used laptops a lot to write reports and for my assignments.

Since then, I have become more efficient at using it, and it has been especially beneficial when I was at school and used laptops a lot to write reports and do my assignments.

The clause mixes present perfect 'has been' with simple past 'went to school' which creates a tense inconsistency. Use 'was at school' to match the past timeframe, and use 'do my assignments' (or 'complete my assignments') for parallelism with 'write reports.' This keeps tense consistent and improves verb parallelism.

Verb + -ing form

× To improve typing, I think the only real answer is by practicing.

To improve typing, I think the only real answer is practicing.

After 'the answer is,' a gerund is more natural than a prepositional phrase 'by practicing.' Use 'the answer is practicing' or 'is to practice.' Both are acceptable; 'practicing' fits the given structure.

Verb + -ing form

× By practicing writing on a keyboard, you become more accurate and you become more efficient in using it so you don't lag behind when you type.

By practicing typing on a keyboard, you become more accurate and more efficient so you don't lag behind when you type.

'Practicing writing on a keyboard' is awkward; use 'practicing typing.' Also remove repetitive 'you become' and the unnecessary 'in using it' for conciseness and natural word order. This corrects gerund choice and adverb placement.
