Part 1
Examiner
What is your favourite food?
Candidate
My favorite food is simple Dal rice. I'm not a big fan of having fancy food. I really enjoyed village style cooking food and when my grandmother used to cook a food he used to love a lot. So I definitely think simple vegetarian food is the best food to have.
Examiner
What kind of food did you like when you were young?
Candidate
I said previously said we used to have a simple vegetarian food. I can eat non vegetarian also, but it wasn't uh, always, uh, weekdays plan and it was during the weekend. We used to have some non veg food, but most of the time we used to have a different vegetables or different curries or the rice which my grandmother used to cook for us.
Examiner
Do you eat different foods at different times of the year?
Candidate
Yes, I do use different foods at the different time of the year. It depends upon the season. Whichever is available during that particular season, we go for that kind of food, but we avoid using that that food in a different season because we think there must be a pesticide and it might be polluted as well. So food adulteration is the biggest issue nowadays.
Examiner
Has your favourite food changed since you were a child?
Candidate
Yes it has definitely changed because when I was small I used to like a Curry a lot, but nowadays I don't like egg Curry much. Once in a blue moon is fine for me, but I usually prefer having Dal and rice and also sometimes different vegetables so I prefer to have soup more than these days than the other food.
What is your favourite food?
Score: 68.0Suggestion: Be more concise and correct small grammatical errors. Start with a clear topic sentence, avoid repetition, use linking words to add one or two specific supporting details, and correct pronoun and tense mistakes (e.g., "she" not "he"). Keep to 3–4 sentences.
Example: My favourite food is simple dal and rice. I prefer home-style village cooking because it tastes fresh and comforting. For example, my grandmother used to make dal with seasonal vegetables, which I still crave because of its smoky, slow-cooked flavour.
What kind of food did you like when you were young?
Score: 64.0Suggestion: Answer directly and avoid repetition. Begin with a topic sentence about childhood preferences, then add one or two specific details with linking words. Reduce fillers (uh) and correct word order and article use (e.g., "different vegetables" not "a different vegetables").
Example: As a child, I mostly ate simple vegetarian meals at home. However, on weekends we would have non-vegetarian dishes, such as chicken curry, while my grandmother usually prepared rice with a variety of vegetable curries.
Do you eat different foods at different times of the year?
Score: 70.0Suggestion: Provide a clear topic sentence and one specific example. Use linking words for cause and effect and avoid vague statements. Correct phrasing (e.g., "in different seasons" not "at the different time of the year") and reduce repetition.
Example: Yes, I eat different foods depending on the season because we prefer fresh, local produce. For instance, in summer we eat more mangoes and light salads, whereas in winter we choose root vegetables and warming lentil soups to stay healthy.
Has your favourite food changed since you were a child?
Score: 66.0Suggestion: Give a clear comparative statement and one concise reason with a linking word. Fix grammar (e.g., "I used to like curry" and "I prefer soup these days") and avoid awkward phrasing like "more than these days than the other food." Keep it to 2–3 sentences.
Example: Yes, my favourite food has changed. I used to love rich egg curry as a child, but now I prefer simple dal and rice or a bowl of vegetable soup because I find lighter meals easier to digest.
× My favorite food is simple Dal rice.
✓ My favorite food is simple dal and rice.
Using articles and nouns: 'Dal rice' is awkward; use 'dal and rice' to list dishes. No article is needed before general foods. Use lowercase 'dal' as common noun.
× I'm not a big fan of having fancy food.
✓ I'm not a big fan of fancy food.
Redundant verb 'having' is unnecessary. Adjective 'fancy' directly modifies 'food'. Removing 'having' makes the sentence more natural and concise.
× I really enjoyed village style cooking food and when my grandmother used to cook a food he used to love a lot.
✓ I really enjoyed village-style cooking, and when my grandmother used to cook, we used to love it a lot.
Pronoun and subject errors: 'a food' is incorrect here; use 'it' to refer to the food. 'He' is wrong for grandmother; change to 'we' or 'I'. Also add hyphen in 'village-style' and commas to improve sentence structure.
× So I definitely think simple vegetarian food is the best food to have.
✓ So I definitely think simple vegetarian food is the best to have.
Avoid repeating 'food'; 'the best to have' is more natural. Remove redundant noun to improve style.
× I said previously said we used to have a simple vegetarian food.
✓ As I said previously, we used to have simple vegetarian food.
Duplicate verb 'said' and article 'a' unnecessary. Rearranged for correct word order and removed redundant article.
× I can eat non vegetarian also, but it wasn't uh, always, uh, weekdays plan and it was during the weekend.
✓ I can eat non-vegetarian food too, but it wasn't part of the weekday plan; it was for the weekend.
Use 'non-vegetarian' as adjective and 'too' for 'also'. 'Weekdays plan' is unidiomatic; 'part of the weekday plan' or 'part of our weekday meals' is correct. Clarified punctuation and removed fillers.
× We used to have some non veg food, but most of the time we used to have a different vegetables or different curries or the rice which my grandmother used to cook for us.
✓ We used to have some non-veg food, but most of the time we had different vegetables, different curries, or the rice my grandmother used to cook for us.
Plural/singular and tense consistency: 'a different vegetables' is incorrect—use 'different vegetables'. Streamline repeated 'used to' to maintain tense consistency; 'had' is acceptable as past simple.
× Yes, I do use different foods at the different time of the year.
✓ Yes, I do eat different foods at different times of the year.
Verb choice: 'use' is not natural for eating foods; 'eat' is correct. Preposition and number: 'at the different time of the year' should be 'at different times of the year' or 'during different times of the year'.
× Whichever is available during that particular season, we go for that kind of food, but we avoid using that that food in a different season because we think there must be a pesticide and it might be polluted as well.
✓ Whichever is available during a particular season, we go for that kind of food, but we avoid eating the same food in a different season because we think it may have pesticides or be contaminated.
Pronoun and word choice: remove duplicate 'that'. Use 'eating' instead of 'using'. 'Must be a pesticide' is incorrect—use 'may have pesticides' or 'might be contaminated' for uncertainty.
× So food adulteration is the biggest issue nowadays.
✓ So food adulteration is a big issue these days.
'The biggest issue' is an exaggerated absolute; 'a big issue' or 'a serious issue' is more neutral. 'Nowadays' can be replaced with 'these days' for naturalness.
× Yes it has definitely changed because when I was small I used to like a Curry a lot, but nowadays I don't like egg Curry much.
✓ Yes, it has definitely changed because when I was small I used to like curry a lot, but nowadays I don't like egg curry much.
Capitalization and article: 'Curry' should be lowercase unless a proper noun; remove unnecessary article 'a' before 'curry'.
× Once in a blue moon is fine for me, but I usually prefer having Dal and rice and also sometimes different vegetables so I prefer to have soup more than these days than the other food.
✓ Once in a blue moon is fine for me, but I usually prefer dal and rice and sometimes different vegetables. These days I prefer soup more than other foods.
Run-on sentence and word order: split into two sentences. Remove redundant 'having' and normalize nouns 'dal and rice'. 'More than these days than the other food' is ungrammatical—use 'prefer soup more than other foods'.
