Part 1

What is your favourite food?
Candidate
My all time favorite food would probably be pasta, especially when it's made with a creamy sauce. I think I love it because it's incredibly versatile, so you can have it with completely different ingredients and it never really gets boring. Plus, it's one of those foods that I associate with having dinner with my family, so there's a bit of sentimental respect to it as well.

What kind of food did you like when you were young?
Candidate
When I was younger I had a pretty big sweet tooth, so I was particularly fond of things like chocolate ice cream cakes. I also used to be quite picky with savory food and would often stick to familiar dishes. Looking back, my tastes have definitely become more adventurous because nowadays and more much more willing to try and be unfamiliar flavors in different cousins.

Do you eat different foods at different times of the year?
Candidate
Definitely. I think the weather has a surprisingly strong influence on what I feel like eating. In the summer I tend to go for lighter meals such as salads, fruit or cold dishes, whereas in winter I naturally gravitate towards comforting, hearty food like soup or pasta. I suppose seasonal food just feels more appealing when it matches the atmosphere outside.

Has your favourite food changed since you were a child?
Candidate
Yes, quite considerably, actually. When I was a child, I was much more into simple comfort foods, particularly things like pizza and desserts. As I've grown older, though, I've started appreciating more complex flavors and experimenting with different cuisines as though although I still enjoy the foods I loved as a child, my palate has definitely.
What is your favourite food?
Score: 82.0Suggestion: Be careful with minor word choice and redundancy. Start with a concise topic sentence, then add one or two specific supporting details (flavour, ingredients, or a short anecdote) using linking words. Avoid repeating ideas (e.g. versatility mentioned more than once) and correct small collocation issues like “sentimental respect.”
Example: I would say my favourite food is pasta, especially creamy carbonara. For example, I often make it with pancetta and freshly grated Parmesan, which gives it a rich, salty flavour. Also, I associate it with Sunday family dinners, so it feels comforting and nostalgic.
What kind of food did you like when you were young?
Score: 64.0Suggestion: Improve grammar, clarity and coherence. Start with a clear topic sentence about childhood preferences, then use linking words to contrast past and present. Correct tense and vocabulary mistakes (e.g. “savory,” “cuisines,” remove duplicated words). Be specific about examples and keep sentences under five.
Example: When I was young I preferred sweet treats, especially chocolate ice cream cakes. I was also quite picky with savoury dishes and usually ate plain foods like chicken and fries. However, now I’m more adventurous and enjoy trying spicy Mexican or Korean cuisines.
Do you eat different foods at different times of the year?
Score: 90.0Suggestion: This answer is clear and well-structured. To improve further, add one specific example or detail (a favourite summer dish or a winter recipe) and use a linking phrase to make the contrast explicit. Keep sentences concise and avoid filler phrases like “I suppose.”
Example: Yes. Because of the weather, I prefer light salads and chilled fruit in summer, such as a Greek salad with cucumber and feta. In winter I choose hearty meals like beef stew or mushroom soup, which feel warming and satisfying.
Has your favourite food changed since you were a child?
Score: 58.0Suggestion: Fix sentence fragments and awkward connectors. Give a direct topic sentence, then support it with specific examples of new flavours or cuisines you now like, using clear linking words (e.g. “however,” “for example”). Ensure each sentence is complete and avoid trailing or unfinished phrases.
Example: Yes, it has changed. As a child I mainly liked pizza and sweet desserts, but now I prefer dishes with complex flavours — for example, I enjoy spicy Indian curries and sour kimchi from Korean cuisine. However, I still eat my childhood favourites occasionally.
× 'My all time favorite food would probably be pasta, especially when it's made with a creamy sauce.'
✓ 'My all-time favorite food would probably be pasta, especially when it''s made with a creamy sauce.'
'All-time' should be hyphenated when used as a compound adjective before a noun. This is not a quantifier error in the usual sense but fits best under quantifier/word-formation in the provided list; hyphenation clarifies that 'all-time' modifies 'favorite'. Suggestion: use hyphenated compounds before nouns (all-time, well-known).'
× 'I think I love it because it's incredibly versatile, so you can have it with completely different ingredients and it never really gets boring.'
✓ 'I think I love it because it''s incredibly versatile, so you can have it with completely different ingredients and it never really gets boring.'
'I think I love it' is acceptable colloquially but slightly awkward; better is ''I love it'' or ''I think I love it'' depending on speaker certainty. No strict tense error; keep present simple 'love' and 'never gets' to describe general truth.'
× 'Plus, it's one of those foods that I associate with having dinner with my family, so there's a bit of sentimental respect to it as well.'
✓ 'Plus, it''s one of those foods that I associate with having dinner with my family, so there''s a bit of sentimental value to it as well.'
'Sentimental respect' is an odd collocation; 'sentimental value' or 'sentimentality' are natural. This is an adjective/noun choice issue. Use collocations that native speakers use.'
× 'When I was younger I had a pretty big sweet tooth, so I was particularly fond of things like chocolate ice cream cakes.'
✓ 'When I was younger, I had a pretty big sweet tooth, so I was particularly fond of things like chocolate ice cream and cakes.'
Original ''chocolate ice cream cakes'' could be interpreted as a combined dessert but seems to conflate items; adding a comma improves flow and separating items with 'and' clarifies meaning. Also add a comma after 'When I was younger' for correct clause punctuation.'
× 'I also used to be quite picky with savory food and would often stick to familiar dishes.'
✓ 'I also used to be quite picky about savory food and would often stick to familiar dishes.'
'Picky about' is the correct prepositional collocation in English, not ''picky with''. Use 'about' with 'picky'.'
× 'Looking back, my tastes have definitely become more adventurous because nowadays and more much more willing to try and be unfamiliar flavors in different cousins.'
✓ 'Looking back, my tastes have definitely become more adventurous nowadays, and I''m much more willing to try unfamiliar flavors in different cuisines.'
Several structural errors: 'because nowadays and more much more' is ungrammatical; 'be unfamiliar flavors' wrong verb form; 'cousins' is wrong word for 'cuisines'. Correct structure uses 'nowadays' as an adverb, contraction or 'I am' for subject, 'much more willing to try unfamiliar flavors', and correct noun 'cuisines'.'
× 'I suppose seasonal food just feels more appealing when it matches the atmosphere outside.'
✓ 'I suppose seasonal food just feels more appealing when it matches the atmosphere outside.'
This sentence is grammatically correct and fits context; no change needed.'
× 'Yes, quite considerably, actually.'
✓ 'Yes, quite considerably, actually.'
This brief response is acceptable as a spoken answer fragment; no tense correction needed.'
× 'When I was a child, I was much more into simple comfort foods, particularly things like pizza and desserts.'
✓ 'When I was a child, I was much more into simple comfort foods, particularly things like pizza and desserts.'
Sentence correctly uses past simple 'was' to describe childhood preferences; no change needed.'
× 'As I''ve grown older, though, I''ve started appreciating more complex flavors and experimenting with different cuisines as though although I still enjoy the foods I loved as a child, my palate has definitely.'
✓ 'As I''ve grown older, though, I''ve started appreciating more complex flavors and experimenting with different cuisines; although I still enjoy the foods I loved as a child, my palate has definitely changed.'
Original had a faulty connector 'as though although' (redundant) and an incomplete final clause 'my palate has definitely.' Fix by using a semicolon or period and 'although' to start the contrast clause, and finish the sentence with the verb 'changed'.'
