Conversation

Part 1

Examiner

What is your favourite food?

Candidate

Thank you for your question. Actually I don't have uh like a typical favorite food, but I prefer cooking myself and try as much food as I can.

Examiner

What kind of food did you like when you were young?

Candidate

Well, when I was young I was really interested in 2 sweet foods, for an example chocolate or cake because it makes me feel so much better and apparently I still like it. Now Sometimes when I'm not happy or when I'm not in good mood, I always eat sweet food so it's gonna make my mood so much better.

Examiner

Do you eat different foods at different times of the year?

Candidate

Well, I must say I do, but it doesn't change a lot. For example, in Vietnam, we have one day and we eat it for Lunar New Year. We have especially specialties for education. So yeah.

Examiner

Has your favourite food changed since you were a child?

Candidate

When I was a child, it was kind of like a picky person, so I didn't have like a favorite taste of food, but I believe that I'm always willing to try as much different food I can.

Part 1

What is your favourite food?

Score: 62.0

Suggestion: Tránh lời nói lặp (uh, like) và câu dài không cần thiết; bắt đầu trực tiếp trả lời, dùng 1 câu chủ đề rõ ràng rồi thêm 1–2 câu hỗ trợ ngắn gọn. Cung cấp ví dụ cụ thể về món bạn thường nấu để câu trả lời tự nhiên và hiệu quả hơn.

Example: I don't have a single favourite food; I enjoy cooking and trying many different dishes. For example, I often make Vietnamese stir-fried noodles with vegetables because it's quick and versatile.

What kind of food did you like when you were young?

Score: 68.0

Suggestion: Tránh lỗi ngữ pháp (’2’ nên là ‘two’, ‘for an example’ → ‘for example’) và nói lặp ý (repeating ‘makes my mood better’). Nên mở đầu bằng câu chủ đề, dùng linking words (because, so) hợp lý, và rút gọn để không quá 5 câu. Bổ sung một chi tiết cụ thể (khi nào / loại kẹo yêu thích) để tăng tính cụ thể.

Example: When I was young I loved sweet treats, especially chocolate and cake, because they cheered me up. For instance, I used to ask my parents for chocolate after school whenever I felt tired.

Do you eat different foods at different times of the year?

Score: 55.0

Suggestion: Câu trả lời thiếu rõ ràng và có lỗi ý nghĩa (‘specialties for education’ không đúng). Nên trả lời trực tiếp, giải thích rõ món ăn đặc trưng theo mùa (ví dụ Tết) và mô tả ngắn về món, dùng linking words để mạch lạc. Tránh câu ngắn, không hoàn chỉnh như 'So yeah'.

Example: Yes, my diet changes slightly with the seasons. For example, during Lunar New Year we eat traditional foods like bánh chưng, which is a sticky rice cake filled with pork and beans, and these dishes are eaten only at that time.

Has your favourite food changed since you were a child?

Score: 60.0

Suggestion: Cần dùng cấu trúc rõ ràng để diễn đạt ý (ví dụ: ‘I was a picky eater’). Tránh dùng nhiều từ đệm (‘like’) và sửa ngữ pháp (‘try as much different food I can’ → ‘try as many different foods as I can’). Bắt đầu với câu chủ đề rồi thêm 1 câu giải thích ngắn về thói quen thử món mới.

Example: I used to be a picky eater as a child, so I didn't have a favourite food. However, now I'm willing to try many different dishes, so my tastes have broadened.

Grammar

Verb + -ing form

× Actually I don't have uh like a typical favorite food, but I prefer cooking myself and try as much food as I can.

Actually I don't have a typical favorite food, but I prefer cooking for myself and trying as many foods as I can.

Use 'prefer doing' with gerund; 'prefer cooking for myself' is natural; after 'prefer' when two verbs follow, make them parallel: 'prefer cooking... and trying...'; use 'as many foods as I can' for countable items. Suggestions: make verbs parallel and use correct quantifier for countable nouns.

Incorrect use of prepositions

× Well, when I was young I was really interested in 2 sweet foods, for an example chocolate or cake because it makes me feel so much better and apparently I still like it.

Well, when I was young I was really interested in sweet foods, for example chocolate or cake because they made me feel much better and I still like them.

Use 'for example' not 'for an example'; 'sweet foods' plural without numeral '2'; refer back with plural pronouns 'they'/'them' to 'chocolate or cake'; when talking about past feelings use past tense 'made'. Suggestions: remove numeral, use 'for example', match pronouns and tense.

Present tense issue

× Now Sometimes when I'm not happy or when I'm not in good mood, I always eat sweet food so it's gonna make my mood so much better.

Now sometimes when I'm not happy or not in a good mood, I always eat sweet food so it makes my mood much better.

Capitalize 'sometimes' properly; use 'in a good mood' with article; avoid colloquial 'gonna' and use 'makes' to express habitual present effect. Suggestions: use standard present tense for habits and correct article usage.

Incorrect use of adjectives or adverbs

× Well, I must say I do, but it doesn't change a lot.

Well, I must say I do, but it doesn't change much.

Use 'much' not 'a lot' after 'doesn't change' in negative contexts for more natural usage. Suggestions: use 'much' with uncountable notions in negatives.

Sentence structure errors

× For example, in Vietnam, we have one day and we eat it for Lunar New Year.

For example, in Vietnam we have special dishes that we eat for Lunar New Year.

Original sentence 'we have one day and we eat it' is unclear and ungrammatical; clarify that 'we have special dishes' and use 'that we eat for Lunar New Year.' Suggestions: make subject and object clear and avoid vague placeholders like 'it.'

Incorrect use of adjectives or adverbs

× We have especially specialties for education.

We have special specialties for the festival.

Phrase 'especially specialties for education' is incorrect and unclear; likely meant 'special specialties for the festival' or 'specialty foods for the celebration.' Use 'special' not 'especially' before nouns and replace 'education' with intended word 'festival' or 'celebration.' Suggestions: choose correct modifier form and correct noun to match meaning.

Third person singular issue

× When I was a child, it was kind of like a picky person, so I didn't have like a favorite taste of food, but I believe that I'm always willing to try as much different food I can.

When I was a child, I was kind of picky, so I didn't have a favorite taste in food, but I believe that I'm always willing to try as many different foods as I can.

Do not use 'it was...a picky person' when referring to oneself; use 'I was kind of picky.' Use 'favorite taste in food' or 'favorite flavor' and 'as many different foods as I can' for countable items; include 'as' before 'I can' for correct comparative structure. Suggestions: use correct subject pronoun, concise adjective 'picky', and correct quantifiers and comparative clauses.
