What kind of food did you like when you were young?
Candidate
When I was young, I really loved fruits. I would always eat them every day. I especially liked strawberries because in my uh region in the country, we couldn't really get strawberries for a reasonable price. And I actually also really still like fruits till this day.

Do you eat different foods at different times of the year?
Candidate
Yes, as a Japanese person, I do eat different foods at different times of the year. For example, in New Year's we eat this thing called mochi, which is basically rice that's turn that's smashed and turned into like a rice ball. And yeah.

Has your favourite food changed since you were a child?
Candidate
I don't think my favorite food has changed since I was a child. I loved eating strawberries because in my region it was really rare to find strawberries in my supermarket and even if we did, it was still very umm, it was not a reasonable price. So even till this day I really love strawberries and even back in the days I love them too.
What is your favourite food?
Score: 65.0Suggestion: 答えは明確ですが、情報が混在しており一部事実関係や語彙の選択が不自然です。ポイント:1) トピック文をはっきり短くする(例:“My favourite food is my grandma’s mashed potatoes.”)。2) 補足は論理的につなげる(because / and / moreover を活用)。3) 不必要な情報(林檎やパイナップルの言及)が混ざっているので削るか具体的に説明する。4) 語彙を正確に使う(“balanced nutritionally” より “nutritious”や“well-balanced”)。5) 文は最大5文に収め、冗長な繰り返しを避ける。
Example: My favourite food is my grandmother’s mashed potatoes because they are comforting and well-balanced. They include potatoes for carbohydrates and a little butter and milk for richness. Moreover, she adds some steamed vegetables which make them more nutritious. I enjoy them because they remind me of family gatherings.
What kind of food did you like when you were young?
Score: 70.0Suggestion: 回答は直接的で個人的な情報を含んでおり良いですが、流暢さと一貫性を改善できます。ポイント:1) 話し方の躊躇(uh)を減らす。2) 時制と語法を整える(“we couldn't really get”→“they were hard to find”)。3) 補足は具体例や理由で広げる(どの季節に食べていたか、誰と食べたか)。4) 文を論理的に繋ぐ接続詞を使う(for example, therefore)。
Example: When I was young, I loved eating fruits and had them almost every day. I especially liked strawberries because they were rare and expensive in my region. For example, we could only buy them on special occasions, which made them feel like a treat. I still enjoy eating fruits now because they are fresh and healthy.
Do you eat different foods at different times of the year?
Score: 60.0Suggestion: 良い具体例を挙げていますが、説明が冗長で不正確な語彙(“smashed”など)や曖昧な表現があるため改善が必要です。ポイント:1) 専門語は正確に(mochiは“pounded rice cake”が適切)。2) 例を簡潔に説明し、文化的な意味を加えると効果的(“we eat mochi to celebrate New Year”)。3) 文を整理して5文以内にする。
Example: Yes. In Japan we eat seasonal foods, and a typical New Year’s food is mochi. Mochi is a pounded rice cake that families often share during New Year celebrations. Eating mochi is a tradition that symbolizes good luck and prosperity for the coming year.
Has your favourite food changed since you were a child?
Score: 62.0Suggestion: 回答は意図が分かるが冗長で繰り返しが多く、流暢さを損なっています。ポイント:1) 同じ情報を繰り返さない。2) 躊躇語を減らす。3) 理由を簡潔に述べ、追加の関連情報(どうやって手に入れたか、特別な思い出)を加えると良い。4) 文法を整える(“even back in the days I love them too”→“I loved them as a child, and I still do”)。
Example: No, my favourite food has not changed; I loved strawberries as a child and I still do. They used to be rare and expensive in my hometown, so when we had them it felt special. Even now I enjoy them whenever I can because they remind me of those memories.
× There's apples, pineapples, you can take in vitamins and carbs.
✓ There are apples and pineapples; you can get vitamins and carbohydrates from them.
Original uses 'There's' with plural nouns (singular/plural error) and 'take in' is unnatural here. Use 'There are' for plural subjects and 'get...from' to indicate source of nutrients. Also expand 'carbs' to 'carbohydrates' for formality. Correction reasons: 'There' + verb must agree with the following noun (plural -> 'are'), and the phrasal verb 'take in' is less appropriate than 'get' or 'obtain' when referring to nutrients; include 'from them' to clarify source.
× I would always eat them every day.
✓ I always ate them every day.
Original mixes conditional 'would' with a habitual past action. For past habitual actions, use past simple 'always ate' (or 'would eat' without 'every day'). Using both is redundant. Use either 'I would always eat them' (colloquial) or 'I always ate them every day' (preferred clear past tense).
× because in my uh region in the country, we couldn't really get strawberries for a reasonable price.
✓ because in my region of the country, we couldn't really get strawberries at a reasonable price.
Use 'region of the country' rather than 'region in the country' for clarity, and use 'at a reasonable price' (fixed expression) instead of 'for a reasonable price'. The phrase 'in my uh region in the country' is redundant; simplify to 'in my region of the country'.
× And I actually also really still like fruits till this day.
✓ And I actually still really like fruit to this day.
Use 'fruit' as an uncountable noun when speaking generally. 'Till this day' is colloquial; 'to this day' is more standard. Word order: 'still really like' is fine but streamline to 'still really like'.
× For example, in New Year's we eat this thing called mochi, which is basically rice that's turn that's smashed and turned into like a rice ball.
✓ For example, at New Year we eat something called mochi, which is basically rice that's been smashed and formed into a rice cake.
Use 'at New Year' or 'at New Year's' (not 'in New Year's'). 'This thing called' is informal—use 'something called'. 'Rice that's turn that's smashed' is ungrammatical; use passive perfect 'that's been smashed' and 'formed' instead of 'turned into like a rice ball'. 'Rice cake' is a more accurate term than 'rice ball'.
× I don't think my favorite food has changed since I was a child.
✓ I don't think my favorite food has changed since I was a child.
Sentence is correct; no change needed. It uses present perfect 'has changed' appropriately to link past to present.
× I loved eating strawberries because in my region it was really rare to find strawberries in my supermarket and even if we did, it was still very umm, it was not a reasonable price.
✓ I loved eating strawberries because in my region it was really rare to find them in my supermarket, and even if we did, they were not at a reasonable price.
Avoid repeating subjects unnecessarily. Use 'them' to avoid repetition. Maintain past tense consistency: 'they were not at a reasonable price'. Use 'at a reasonable price' (fixed expression). Remove filler 'umm'.
× So even till this day I really love strawberries and even back in the days I love them too.
✓ So even to this day I really love strawberries, and I loved them back in the day too.
Maintain tense consistency: 'to this day I really love' (present) and 'back in the day I loved them' (past). Use 'back in the day' (singular) and avoid 'even' twice. 'Till' -> 'to' is more standard in this expression.
