To a certain extent, I think so. If someone is a goth, then they are likely to wear black clothes and reflect their beliefs in their clothing, but, and I think this is key, it doesn't tell us anything about their personality. It's impossible to tell if that person is kind or not, generous or tight-fisted and we can only learn this by actually talking to them in the flesh. So, perhaps, our clothing just tells other people a little about what we like instead of reflecting our personality.
