Part 1

Examinador

Do you like science?

Candidato

Yes, I love learning some scientific thoughts everyone once in awhile, and personally I also love chemistry. I am very interested by everything that has to do with chemicals, especially organic chemistry. However, in high school I struggled a lot with biology and physics. Physics because it was such a quantitative, rigorous course, and biology because there was a lot of content.

Examinador

When did you start to learn about science?

Candidato

I began learning about science in grade one. I'm pretty sure our first project ever was to grow a plant, and I'm pretty sure we had to grow a plant to learn about the process of photosynthesis. I was always, I was very fascinated by the fact that animals, sorry, plants can generate their food just from sunlight and carbon dioxide.

Examinador

Which science subject is interesting to you?

Candidato

I love acids and bases, particularly the talk about the strength of different acids because I find it very helpful to see the connection between the chemistry aspect of it and the commercial skin care formulation side of it, because I can now make a link between why the acids are strong thanks to chemistry.

Examinador

What kinds of interesting things have you done with science?

Candidato

Expanding on what I was talking about before, in high school I had to write a research paper where I was explaining the strength of skin care acids, umm, using organic chemistry and acid base theory, and I thought it was very interesting and nice that I could make a connection between what I was learning and what I was putting on my face in terms of acid.

Examinador

Do you like watching science TV programs?

Candidato

Although I really enjoy learning about science, I don't enjoy watching science TV programs unless it's stuff like National Geographic where we learn about mammal life in the world or we learn about any species that are going extinct soon. I'm not very interested in the physics and chemistry aspects of science and TV programs.

Do Chinese people often visit science museums?

Candidato

I'm not really sure if they do because I don't visit science museums very often myself, and all the times that I have, I haven't really been looking for a specific racial group in the crowd. I've mostly just been focused on the scientific facts that I was being explained by the tour guide.

Part 1

Do you like science?

Puntuación: 78.0

Sugerencia: Votre réponse est naturelle et informative, mais elle est un peu longue et comporte quelques maladresses grammaticales (par ex. "interested by" au lieu de "interested in"). Simplifiez et structurez la réponse : commencez par une phrase directe, puis ajoutez une ou deux phrases de soutien. Évitez les répétitions et corrigez les prépositions et l'accord. Utilisez des connecteurs simples comme "but" ou "however" pour la clarté.

Ejemplo: Yes, I really enjoy science, especially chemistry. I find organic chemistry fascinating because it explains how everyday products work. However, I found biology and physics challenging in high school because biology had a lot of content and physics was very quantitative.

When did you start to learn about science?

Puntuación: 82.0

Sugerencia: La réponse est claire et spécifique, mais elle contient des répétitions et une hésitation (« animals, sorry, plants »). Reformulez sans répétition et limitez-vous à deux ou trois phrases. Ajoutez un lien logique entre l'âge et le projet pour plus de cohérence.

Ejemplo: I started learning about science in grade one. For our first project we grew a plant to study photosynthesis, which fascinated me because plants make their own food from sunlight and carbon dioxide.

Which science subject is interesting to you?

Puntuación: 80.0

Sugerencia: Bonne idée et lien personnel pertinent, mais la phrase est longue et répétitive (deux fois "because"). Raccourcissez la réponse et utilisez un connecteur pour lier les idées. Précisez un exemple concret pour être plus spécifique.

Ejemplo: I'm particularly interested in acids and bases, especially acid strength. For example, understanding acid dissociation helps me explain why certain skincare products are effective and how pH affects their performance.

What kinds of interesting things have you done with science?

Puntuación: 76.0

Sugerencia: La réponse montre une bonne expérience personnelle mais est trop verbeuse et contient des hésitations (« umm »). Soyez plus concise : une phrase d'introduction puis une ou deux phrases de détail. Remplacez les hésitations par des pauses naturelles ou supprimez-les.

Ejemplo: In high school I wrote a research paper on the strength of skincare acids using organic chemistry and acid–base theory. It was rewarding to connect classroom knowledge with real-life applications like product formulation.

Do you like watching science TV programs?

Puntuación: 79.0

Sugerencia: La réponse est claire et cohérente, mais elle est un peu longue et légèrement répétitive. Utilisez des expressions plus naturelles (par ex. "I enjoy nature documentaries like National Geographic") et évitez de répéter "science" et "programs". Ajoutez un exemple spécifique de programme.

Ejemplo: I prefer nature documentaries, like National Geographic, which focus on wildlife and endangered species. I'm less interested in science shows that concentrate on physics or chemistry.

Do Chinese people often visit science museums?

Puntuación: 68.0

Sugerencia: La réponse est honnête mais maladroite : mentionner "racial group" est inutile et peut sembler étrange. Répondez directement en donnant une estimation générale ou en expliquant pourquoi vous ne savez pas, puis proposez une possible raison. Gardez la réponse brève et neutre.

Ejemplo: I'm not sure, because I don't visit science museums often. From my limited experience, visitors seem to be families and school groups, and attendance probably depends on location and school activities.

Gramática

8: Verb + -ing form

× I love learning some scientific thoughts everyone once in awhile, and personally I also love chemistry.

I love learning about scientific ideas every once in a while, and I also love chemistry.

The original uses 'learning some scientific thoughts' which is unidiomatic; 'learning about' plus noun phrase or gerund is correct. 'Everyone once in awhile' mixes 'every' and 'once' and 'awhile' should be 'a while' or 'once in a while'. Use 'every once in a while' or 'once in a while'. Suggestion: 'learn about scientific ideas' and 'every once in a while'.

10: Verb in the present participle form

× I am very interested by everything that has to do with chemicals, especially organic chemistry.

I am very interested in everything that has to do with chemicals, especially organic chemistry.

The correct preposition with 'interested' is 'in', not 'by'. Use 'interested in'. Suggestion: 'I am very interested in ...'.

5: Past tense issue

× However, in high school I struggled a lot with biology and physics.

However, in high school I struggled a lot with biology and physics.

This sentence is already correct; 'struggled' is the appropriate past tense. No change needed.

6: Present tense issue

× Physics because it was such a quantitative, rigorous course, and biology because there was a lot of content.

Physics was such a quantitative, rigorous course, and biology had a lot of content.

The fragment beginning 'Physics because...' is not a complete clause. Make both clauses parallel: 'Physics was...' and 'biology had...'. This fixes sentence structure and tense agreement. Suggest using full clauses.

5: Past tense issue

× I began learning about science in grade one.

I began learning about science in first grade.

'Grade one' is understandable but 'first grade' is the more common fixed phrase in English. 'Began' correctly indicates past tense, so no tense change required.

8: Verb + -ing form

× I'm pretty sure our first project ever was to grow a plant, and I'm pretty sure we had to grow a plant to learn about the process of photosynthesis.

I'm pretty sure our first project was to grow a plant, and we had to do that to learn about the process of photosynthesis.

Repetition of 'I'm pretty sure' and 'grow a plant' is redundant. 'Had to do that' avoids repeating the verb phrase. Keep gerund use minimal and make sentences concise.

10: Verb in the present participle form

× I was always, I was very fascinated by the fact that animals, sorry, plants can generate their food just from sunlight and carbon dioxide.

I was always fascinated by the fact that plants can produce their own food from sunlight and carbon dioxide.

'Omit 'always, I was' duplicate; 'fascinated by' is correct but 'produce their own food' is more natural than 'generate their food'. Remove 'animals, sorry,' which disrupts fluency. Keep past tense 'was'.

13: Incorrect use of adjectives or adverbs

× Which science subject is interesting to you?

Which science subject is interesting to you?

This question is acceptable, though more natural would be 'Which science subject interests you?' Both forms are grammatical; no mandatory correction needed.

8: Verb + -ing form

× I love acids and bases, particularly the talk about the strength of different acids because I find it very helpful to see the connection between the chemistry aspect of it and the commercial skin care formulation side of it, because I can now make a link between why the acids are strong thanks to chemistry.

I love acids and bases, particularly discussions about the strength of different acids, because I find it helpful to see the connection between the chemistry and the commercial skincare formulation side, which lets me understand why some acids are stronger from a chemical perspective.

Use 'discussions about' instead of 'the talk about'. Reduce repetition 'because'. Replace 'skin care' with 'skincare' (more common). Rephrase 'make a link' to 'understand why some acids are stronger' and use 'from a chemical perspective' for clarity.

26: Sentence structure errors

× Expanding on what I was talking about before, in high school I had to write a research paper where I was explaining the strength of skin care acids, umm, using organic chemistry and acid base theory, and I thought it was very interesting and nice that I could make a connection between what I was learning and what I was putting on my face in terms of acid.

Expanding on what I said before, in high school I wrote a research paper explaining the strength of skincare acids using organic chemistry and acid-base theory, and I thought it was interesting that I could connect what I was learning with what I was applying to my skin.

Reduce wordiness and filler ('umm'). Use past simple 'wrote' instead of 'had to write' for clarity. Hyphenate 'acid-base'. 'Putting on my face in terms of acid' is awkward; use 'applying to my skin'.

6: Present tense issue

× Although I really enjoy learning about science, I don't enjoy watching science TV programs unless it's stuff like National Geographic where we learn about mammal life in the world or we learn about any species that are going extinct soon.

Although I really enjoy learning about science, I don't enjoy watching science TV programs unless they are shows like National Geographic where we learn about mammals or species that are becoming endangered.

Use 'they are shows' instead of 'it's stuff'; 'mammal life in the world' is awkward—use 'mammals'. 'Going extinct soon' -> 'becoming endangered' or 'threatened'. Maintain present tense 'don't enjoy'.

11: Incorrect use of prepositions

× I'm not very interested in the physics and chemistry aspects of science and TV programs.

I'm not very interested in the physics and chemistry aspects of science TV programs.

Combine noun phrases: 'science TV programs' is clearer than 'science and TV programs' which could imply two categories. Keep preposition 'interested in'.

6: Present tense issue

× I'm not really sure if they do because I don't visit science museums very often myself, and all the times that I have, I haven't really been looking for a specific racial group in the crowd.

I'm not really sure if they do because I don't visit science museums very often, and when I have, I haven't been looking for any particular racial group in the crowd.

Use 'when I have' instead of 'all the times that I have' for naturalness. 'Any particular' is more idiomatic than 'a specific'. Keep present perfect 'have' consistent.

20: Incorrect adverb placement

× I've mostly just been focused on the scientific facts that I was being explained by the tour guide.

I've mostly been focused on the scientific facts that the tour guide explained to me.

'Mostly just been' is wordy; 'mostly been focused' is cleaner. 'Was being explained by the tour guide' is passive and awkward; use active 'the tour guide explained to me'.
