Topic:A talented polyglot friend How you got to know him/her The person I’d like to talk about is my university friend, Anna, who is truly gifted when it comes to learning and speaking new languages. I first met Anna during my first year at university, when we were both assigned to the same dormitory. We quickly became friends because we shared a passion for travel and exploring different cultures. From the very beginning, I was amazed by her ability to switch between languages effortlessly, even when talking to international students from various backgrounds. How he/she learns a new language Anna has a very unique approach to language learning. Rather than just relying on textbooks or formal classes, she immerses herself in the language as much as possible. For example, she often watches movies and TV shows in the target language, listens to music, and even tries to cook dishes from that country while learning the relevant vocabulary. She also makes a point of practicing with native speakers, either online or in person, which helps her pick up authentic accents and colloquial expressions. Anna believes that making mistakes is a natural part of the process, so she’s never afraid to speak, even if she’s not perfect. This confidence really accelerates her progress. What languages he/she can speak At the moment, Anna is fluent in four languages: English, Spanish, French, and Mandarin Chinese. She started learning English as a child, as it was part of her school curriculum. Later, she picked up Spanish because she wanted to travel around South America. French came next, as she spent a semester studying in Paris, and she learned Mandarin out of curiosity and a desire to understand Chinese culture better. She’s currently working on learning Italian, and I have no doubt she’ll master it soon. How you feel about him/her I have a great deal of admiration for Anna, not only because of her linguistic abilities but also because of her dedication and open-mindedness. She inspires me to be more adventurous and to step outside my comfort zone. Watching her interact with people from different countries has shown me how powerful language can be in building bridges and creating meaningful connections. I feel lucky to have such a talented and motivating friend, and I hope to follow her example by learning more languages myself in the future.
