The Great Wall of China
Where the place is
The Great Wall of China stretches across the northern part of China, but the section I frequently visit for photography is located near Beijing, specifically the Badaling and Mutianyu sections.
When you took the photos
I first visited the Great Wall about five years ago, and since then, I've returned several times at different times of the year. My most recent visit was just last autumn.
What special features the photos taken there have
The photos I've taken at the Great Wall are special because each visit has offered different lighting, weather, and seasonal colors, which dramatically change the landscape. In autumn, the wall is framed by lush golden and red foliage, while in winter, a serene blanket of snow covers the ancient stones, creating a stark contrast.
And explain why you have been there more than once to take photos
I keep returning to the Great Wall to capture these varying aesthetics. The wall itself, with its rich history and grand scale, provides an imposing yet beautiful subject. Each section has its unique characteristics, from watchtowers to rugged pathways, which are fascinating to explore through the lens. Moreover, the challenge of capturing the perfect light—whether it's the soft glow of a sunrise or the dramatic hues of a sunset—keeps drawing me back. The ever-changing environment around the wall means that no two visits are the same, and there's always a new perspective to discover or a different detail to focus on.
