Band 7 Example

Question: What should people do to achieve their goals?

Idea 1

Goal Setting and Action Planning
Model Answer
I really believe in being organized and planning the steps to reach a goal. A detailed action plan can make it clear what we need to do to achieve our goals. With so many distractions nowadays, if we don't plan and stay focused on our goals, we might lose focus and our ambitions might get lost in the distractions.
I'm a great believer in getting organized and planning the steps that are needed to reach a goal. A step-by-step action plan can really clarify what we need to do to get to where we want to be. There are so many distractions today that if we don't do this and keep our eyes on the prize then I feel we lose focus and whatever it was we wanted to achieve gets lost in all the noise.
Grammar Analysis
Gerund: "in getting organized and planning" Using the gerund form to describe behavior adds fluency and complexity to the sentence. Conditional clause: "if we don’t do this and keep our eyes on the prize" Using a conditional clause to express the negative consequences of not maintaining focus increases the logic and complexity of the sentence. Object clause: "clarify what we need to do" Using an object clause to detail the specific contents of the action plan increases the accuracy and information of the language.
