Speaking Part 2: TV programme or channel

In this part of the speaking test, you will be asked to describe a TV programme or channel that you enjoy watching regularly. You should provide details such as the name of the programme or channel, what it is about, when you usually watch it, and explain why you prefer it over other programmes or channels.

For example, I am going to talk about an online TV channel called ted.com. Nowadays, I rarely watch traditional television channels as I prefer searching for interesting programmes or videos online. While TED is not a conventional TV channel or programme, I consider it to be a modern version of a TV channel.

TED stands for ‘Technology, Entertainment, Design’, and it is a website or channel where you can watch short talks and presentations on various interesting topics. I have come across talks ranging from world population predictions to how to improve schools. These presentations are given by some of the world's top experts and recorded in front of live audiences.

One of the advantages of TED is that I can watch the videos at my convenience. I have ted.com saved as one of my favorites on my laptop, and I frequently visit the website every few days to check for new content. Moreover, I often watch TED videos on my phone while commuting to work on the train.

The reason I enjoy watching online videos on TED is because I always learn something new. The tagline for the TED website is ‘ideas worth spreading’, and this perfectly captures the appeal of the site for me. Instead of watching meaningless soap operas or talk shows on TV, I much prefer spending ten minutes watching someone talk about breakthroughs in technology, science, or healthcare.

Note:

You may notice that I am slightly deviating from the rules by referring to a website as an "online TV channel." However, I believe this is acceptable, especially since I clearly explained my choice from the beginning.

Similarly, you can also discuss YouTube channels for this task.

Remember: You can use the same description for a "Describe a website" task.
