Speaking Part 2: Describe a vehicle

Here’s a speaking part 2 task and my sample answer.

Describe a vehicle you would like to buy in the future. You should say:

  • what kind of vehicle it is
  • what it looks like
  • what you would use it for
  • and explain why you would like to buy it.

If I were to have the financial means, I would definitely consider purchasing my own helicopter. The idea of owning a helicopter was sparked by a recent TV programme where I witnessed someone flying around in their own helicopter, and I immediately found it fascinating.

The helicopter featured on the TV programme was a small, sleek, two-seater model, painted in an attractive shade of blue. Its design seemed quite user-friendly and manageable, which is precisely the type of helicopter I would choose to buy.

In terms of usage, my envision is to rely on the helicopter as an alternative to a car. Initially, I would need to obtain proper flying skills, but once that hurdle is crossed, I would utilize the helicopter for short trips or even vacations. The appeal lies in the fact that I would be able to effortlessly evade traffic congestion and reach my destinations in a fraction of the usual time. Additionally, I could take my friends and family sightseeing, giving them spectacular views of cities or mountains. Moreover, I could even employ the helicopter for practical purposes, such as going grocery shopping.

The reason behind my desire to own a helicopter derives from the unprecedented flexibility it offers for parking. Unlike planes that require runways or airports, helicopters can be parked almost anywhere. If I had a larger garden, I would be able to conveniently park my helicopter right there. Furthermore, I have always been intrigued by those helipads located on the tops of tall buildings; landing on one of those would be an exhilarating experience. Admittedly, a helicopter may not be a realistic choice for a vehicle, but one can always hold onto the hope that a sudden stroke of luck, such as winning the lottery, might change that.

Quick question:

In reality, I don't have any intention of buying a helicopter. Can you guess why I chose this vehicle for my answer? What are the benefits of opting for such an unconventional choice?

One possible reason for selecting a helicopter as my answer is its flexibility and freedom of parking options. Unlike cars that require parking spaces or planes that necessitate designated runways and airports, helicopters can be conveniently parked in various locations. This unique benefit opens up possibilities for parking in unconventional places, such as private gardens or on the top of high-rise buildings, which adds an element of excitement and adventure to the ownership experience. Additionally, by choosing a helicopter, I emphasized the allure of avoiding traffic congestion and being able to reach destinations efficiently, which are appealing aspects of this unconventional choice.
