Speaking Part 2: Describe a Prize
Introduction: In this speaking part 2 task, you will be asked to describe a prize that you would like to win. You will need to explain what the prize is for, how you know about it, what you would have to do to win it, and why you would like to win this prize. Let's look at an example below:
Example:
I’m going to talk about a prize that I would like to win, which is the 'Employee of the Year' award at the company where I work. This award is given annually by the company directors to a member of staff who has made an outstanding 1) contribution to the business over the previous twelve months.
How I know about the prize:
I first learned about this prize during my training and orientation period just after I got the job three years ago. It was early December, and some of my colleagues were having a discussion about who might be awarded the 'Employee of the Year' later that month. Intrigued by their conversation, I asked them to provide more information about the award.
Criteria for winning the prize:
As I mentioned, the prize is given for making an outstanding 3) contribution to the business. Although we don't have an exact definition for what this entails, we assume that certain standards need to be met. These include 100% attendance, good punctuality, meeting targets and deadlines, good teamwork, and more. Furthermore, I believe the winner also needs to have demonstrated something particularly creative. For instance, last year's recipient created a completely new service for our clients.
Reasons for wanting to win the prize:
I have a strong desire to win the 'Employee of the Year' award because it would indicate that my efforts have been recognized by the company directors. This recognition would undoubtedly aid in my career advancement. Additionally, achieving this prize would provide me with a tremendous 5) sense of personal accomplishment.
