In this section of the IELTS speaking test, you will be asked to describe a foreign culture that you like. It is important to provide clear and detailed information about the foreign culture, how you know about it, the differences between that culture and your own, and explain why you like it.

Sample Answer:

Today, I would like to talk about France and its unique culture. Although France is a neighboring country to England, where I live, its culture, customs and lifestyle differ in several fascinating ways.

I have had the opportunity to immerse myself in the French way of life since I was a child. My family and I have been on several holidays to France, allowing me to gain firsthand experience of their culture. Furthermore, during my teenage years, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in an exchange program and attend a French high school. This experience allowed me to develop a deeper understanding of their customs and traditions. Moreover, after completing my university studies, I had the privilege of living and working in Paris, which further enriched my knowledge of French culture.

One aspect of French culture that immediately comes to mind is their remarkable bread. I have always been captivated by the fact that the French buy fresh baguettes every morning, often from local bakeries or 'patisseries'. This is quite different from the pre-packaged sliced bread found in most supermarkets in the UK. A minor downside I noticed during my time in Paris is that Parisians don't seem to form the same level of friendships with their coworkers compared to us here in the UK.

Additionally, I absolutely adore the café culture in France. It is so delightful to find a quaint café where you can savor a cup of coffee, engage in friendly conversations with friends, or simply observe the hustle and bustle of daily life. In fact, I must admit that I gained a few extra pounds during my time in France due to my habit of enjoying a croissant or a cake in every charming café I stumbled upon. Another aspect worth mentioning is my experience playing a traditional French game called 'boules'. During my last holiday in France, I played this game daily. It entails throwing metal balls as close to a target ball as possible. It proved to be the perfect way to unwind on hot afternoons.

In conclusion, I have a deep appreciation for French culture. Through my various experiences in France, I have come to love the country's bread, café culture, and the opportunity to indulge in traditional games like 'boules'. The differences between French and British culture have allowed me to broaden my horizons and develop a genuine admiration for France and its people.
