Part 3: Nice homes

Here are three speaking part 3 questions with enhanced sample answers.

1. Why do some people buy lots of things for their home?

I believe there could be several reasons to explain this behavior. Firstly, some individuals enjoy surrounding themselves with beautiful objects and furnishings as a way to add vibrancy and positivity to their lives. Secondly, others may be inclined to invest in various devices that are marketed as time-saving tools. For instance, in my own home, we possess a collection of decorative items, such as ornaments and pictures, as they add aesthetic appeal. Additionally, we also own practical gadgets like a compact vacuum cleaner, which we recently purchased.

2. Do you think it is very expensive to make a home look nice?

No, not at all. Nowadays, basic furniture is quite affordable, particularly with the availability of stores like Ikea. I personally know numerous individuals who have managed to furnish and decorate their homes beautifully without having to spend a significant amount of money. Personally, I am inclined towards a minimalist aesthetic that entails simple furniture, light colors, and minimal clutter.

3. Why don’t some people care about how their homes look?

One possible reason could be that certain individuals view their homes simply as a functional base – somewhere to eat and sleep – rather than an expression of their tastes or personalities. Additionally, many people are occupied with demanding work schedules and busy lives outside the home, leaving them with little time or energy to focus on furniture and decorations. For instance, I have a friend who is rarely home due to extensive work-related travel, spending more time in hotel rooms than in his own house, hence, he does not prioritize the appearance of his living space.
