Part 1: Taking photos

Here are four speaking part 1 questions with improved sample answers:

1. What type of photos do you like taking?

Personally, I don’t usually engage in taking photos. Instead, I prefer to immerse myself in the moment and enjoy the experience without the interruption of capturing it on camera.

2. What do you do with the photos you take?

Honestly, when I occasionally take photos, I rarely do anything with them afterwards. They usually end up staying on my phone, and unfortunately, I often forget to save or transfer them to my computer.

3. When you visit other places, do you prefer taking photos or buying postcards?

Neither option particularly appeals to me. As mentioned earlier, I find great pleasure in fully embracing the experience of being in a new place, so I usually leave the photography to others. However, in the past, I used to enjoy purchasing and mailing postcards as keepsakes, so perhaps I should consider returning to that practice.

4. How do you feel about people taking photos of you?

During my childhood, I used to feel a bit bashful when someone aimed their camera at me, and as a result, I didn't particularly enjoy having my photo taken. However, these days, I have grown more comfortable with the idea, and I don't mind at all if someone wants to capture a moment with me in it.

To further enhance your speaking responses, consider incorporating additional examples and detailed explanations into your answers:

1. What type of photos do you like taking?

Well, I don’t usually take photos to be honest. I prefer to enjoy whatever I’m doing, rather than stop to take a photograph. For example, if I attend a concert, I prefer to fully immerse myself in the music and engage with the atmosphere rather than distract myself by snapping pictures. I find that being fully present in the moment enhances my overall enjoyment of the experience.

2. What do you do with the photos you take?

I don’t really do anything with the occasional photos that I take. They just stay on my phone, and I forget to save them or upload them to my computer. Unfortunately, my intention to organize and preserve these memories often gets overshadowed by the busyness of daily life and other obligations. As a result, my photo collection tends to accumulate but remains mostly neglected.

3. When you visit other places, do you prefer taking photos or buying postcards?

Neither. As I said, I prefer to enjoy myself, so I tend to let other people take photos. Nowadays, with the availability of advanced cameras and smartphones, it's common to see almost everyone around me capturing every moment. However, in the past, when I was younger, I used to buy and send postcards as a personal memento of my travels. I found it delightful to browse through various postcard designs, select ones that best represented the destination, and then share my experiences with friends and family through handwritten messages.

4. How do you feel about people taking photos of you?

As a child, I was always a bit shy when it came to having my photo taken, so I would have said that I didn’t like it. However, as I matured, I realized that being photographed is simply a way of preserving memories and capturing moments of joy. These days, if someone wants to take a photo of me, I don’t mind at all. In fact, I have come to appreciate the sentiment behind wanting to create lasting memories, and I have become more comfortable with being in front of the camera. It allows me to look back on those moments and reminisce about cherished times and the people I shared them with.
