Speaking Part 3: Organizing Your Answers into Paragraphs
In this lesson, the importance of "thinking in paragraphs" when speaking, as well as writing, was emphasized. This technique is particularly useful in Part 3 of the speaking test. Here are some examples demonstrating how to structure your answers into coherent paragraphs:
1. Do you think that it’s important for people to go on holiday?
(Answer) Yes, I firmly believe that it is crucial for individuals to go on holiday at least once or twice a year. (Reason) It is detrimental to one's health to work incessantly without taking breaks to relax; everyone needs to take time off and rejuvenate themselves periodically. (Personal example) For instance, last summer I embarked on a two-week holiday to France, and the experience of leaving all my usual responsibilities behind was immensely gratifying. Consequently, upon returning home, I felt remarkably refreshed and invigorated.
2. Why do you think some people prefer not to go abroad on holiday?
(Answer) There are various reasons why certain individuals opt not to travel abroad for their vacations. (First reason) Primarily, the cost of traveling abroad is usually higher compared to staying at home. (Second reason) Secondly, some people find it stressful to spend time in a foreign country where they are unfamiliar with the language and struggle to integrate with the locals. (Third reason) Lastly, numerous individuals simply adore their hometowns or countries and do not feel the need to explore foreign lands.
Additionally, it is worth noting that providing specific examples and further details can enhance the richness and clarity of your answers.
