Speaking Part 3: Home life
Here are some sample Part 3 questions with detailed band 9 sample answers.
1. What factors do you think are important when choosing where to live?
There are several crucial factors to consider when deciding where to live. These include the safety of the area, the proximity to workplaces, local shops, and amenities, the quality of nearby schools, especially if you have children, and, of course, house prices. To exemplify, when choosing my current home, my top priority was to find a relatively serene and secure locality, while still being conveniently close to the city center of Manchester. Moreover, I wanted to avoid highly popular suburbs where house prices have skyrocketed beyond my budget.
2. Compare life in a city with life in the countryside.
The disparities between city life and rural life primarily revolve around the available living space, the pace of life, and the accessibility of amenities and services. People residing in the countryside generally enjoy larger properties with gardens and experience a more tranquil, unhurried lifestyle. Conversely, city dwellers often reside in apartments and have to cope with high levels of noise and limited space. Nevertheless, city life can be substantially more vibrant and thrilling, especially for young individuals, due to the abundance of shops, restaurants, cinemas, and a myriad of other entertainment options.
3. How do you think the design of homes will change in the future?
I do not predict much alteration in the outward appearance of houses in the future. In this country, traditional brick or stone houses remain popular. However, the architecture of apartment blocks will likely continue to evolve, showcasing more experimental and futuristic structures crafted from materials such as glass and metal. I envision that the significant changes will occur inside homes, with an increasing integration of technological devices to enhance convenience. Perhaps we will witness innovations like voice-controlled doors, lights, and appliances.
