Do you like singing? Why?

Candidato

I don't actually like singing to be honest because first of all I never really learned how to sing and I I just, I personally believe I have a very terrible voice when it comes to singing so I try to avoid as much as possible and just in general I'm not a big fan of it.

Examinador

Have you ever learnt how to sing?

Candidato

I did not. I did not learn how to sing, but I mean back when I was a kid, my mom did try to kind of convince me to join the singing school, but unfortunately did not work out for me. I did kind of attend the school for two years, but I personally believe I did not really improve on my singing skills. So after that I kind of stopped.

Examinador

Who do you want to sing for?

Candidato

I mean, if I ever do have this thing for anyone, it would probably be for my parents or my wife if I do end up ever getting married. Because I think singing, especially if you're someone like me, is not really that good of a singer. Singing is more of a personal thing. So as a personal thing, you would either do it for someone very close to you or someone very intimate to you.

Examinador

Do you think singing can bring happiness to people?

Candidato

Oh, absolutely can definitely bring happiness to people. For example, So this friend of mine, he got married to, uh, who to this girl who's actually a very good singer. So you can kind of see the difference in this day-to-day life, how happy he is in general because of the way she sings.

Gramática

Past tense issue

× I did not. I did not learn how to sing, but I mean back when I was a kid, my mom did try to kind of convince me to join the singing school, but unfortunately did not work out for me.

I did not. I did not learn how to sing, but I mean back when I was a kid, my mom did try to kind of convince me to join the singing school, but unfortunately it did not work out for me.

The sentence is missing the subject 'it' before 'did not work out for me'. In English, when using 'did not' in negative past tense, the subject must be present. Here, 'it' refers to the attempt to join the singing school. Without 'it', the sentence is incomplete and grammatically incorrect.
